Background
I’m originally from Wisconsin. My first programming job was at Cray Research (a supercomputer company) when I was in college. Studied math and physics as an undergraduate (UW-River Falls), computer science in graduate school (PhD, UMass-Amherst, developing a simulation of the anuran retina). Did a post-doc at LLNL and UC Berkeley developing computational models of the salamander retina. Taught computer classes at the Peralta colleges, also worked as a programmer before coming to the Redwood Center. A main hobby of mine has always been running, and bicycling. I used to compete in triathlons. Currently I volunteer a lot walking dogs at a local animal shelter. I try to eat a healthy vegan diet.
