Current Research

My work at the Redwood center has focused on topics related to machine learning and, more specifically, deep learning. Currently I’m working on applying deep learning models to electrode recordings in the rat audio cortex, in order to better understand how the brain encodes audio stimuli.

My background is in mathematics and physics, and I had initially entered graduate school to study quantum field theory and the nature of the universe. However, I quickly found understanding the brain and the nature of computation and intelligence to be more alluring. Fundamentally, I am driven by a desire to understand the nature of things, and am drawn to problems that allow us to get at deep questions about ourselves and the universe.
