Current Research

My current research focuses on modeling the computations underlying early visual processing. I’m particularly interested in understanding how adaptive and dynamic mechanisms contribute to the retina’s efficient encoding of natural stimuli.

Background

I grew up in Houston, TX, and studied biomedical engineering and chemistry at UT Austin. I then moved to Boston University to get my master’s in medical sciences and for my research thesis, joined the lab of Dr. Paulo Lizano at Beth Israel/Harvard Medical School. There, I analyzed neuro- and retinal imaging biomarkers of psychosis spectrum disorders, and ended up staying on for another 3 years as a lab manager/research assistant. During my time in the Lizano lab, I fell in love with research and with the retina, an interest that has followed me to graduate school.

Outside of science, I enjoy hiking, crafting (currently learning to sew!) and deep-diving into South Asian historical linguistics. I also run a small Etsy shop with my partner.
