Writing in Nature’s Scientific Reports, Ryan Zarcone and Jesse Engel have recently published their work on techniques for analog coding in Phase Change Memory! This work, which started in 2014 during Engel’s postdoc at the Redwood Center, investigates whether rethinking the separate source-coding and channel-coding paradigms used in conventional digital storage can improve the performance of fundamentally analog emerging memory systems.
These technologies promise to deliver dramatically faster, lower-cost, and higher-density storage to computers in the near future. However, the physical properties of these devices demand a new perspective on how to encode the data to be stored. You can read more about this exciting work on our publications page.
Congrats Ryan, Jesse, and the whole team!
