We are delighted to announce that three of our students were recently awarded prestigious Ph.D. fellowships!
Jamie Simon (DeWeese lab) was selected as a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellow. Jamie uses tools from theoretical physics to build fundamental understanding of machine learning methods.
Adrianne Zhong (DeWeese lab) won a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship, sponsored by the Department of Defense. Adrianne researches how biological systems perform computations and maintain energetic/entropic homeostasis through cycles in various timescales.
Chris Kymn (rotating in Olshausen lab) was also selected as a NDSEG Fellow. Chris is interested in developing robust, compositional models of vision, drawing from techniques in high-dimensional computing and sparse coding.
Each award supports up to three years of graduate study. Congratulations, Jamie, Adrianne, and Chris!
