Bruno Olshausen’s lab, together with Nina Miolane at UC Santa Barbara and Stella Yu at University of Michigan (pictured above), was awarded a grant from NSF’s Robust Intelligence program for their project, “Lie group representation learning for vision.” The goal of this project is to develop a new computational theory of vision based on using Lie groups to describe transformations as they occur in the natural world. The grant was initiated by students Christian Shewmake and Sophia Sanborn, who greatly contributed to much of the writing and framing of project aims.
